A bespoke panel bed is a custom-made sleep system defined by a tall, oversized headboard featuring distinct vertical or horizontal upholstered sections. Unlike standard tufted beds that use buttons, a panel bed uses clean, architectural lines to create a structured, high-end aesthetic often seen in luxury hotels.

Core Design Elements

·         Segmented Headboard: The headboard is constructed from individual padded slats or blocks. These panels can be arranged vertically (to add height to a room) or horizontally (to make a room feel wider).

·         Seamless Upholstery: Each panel is hand-upholstered separately before being mounted, ensuring the fabric is perfectly tensioned without sagging or visible staples.

·         Extended Width: Bespoke designs often feature "wall-to-wall" or "extra-wide" headboards that extend past the width of the mattress to sit behind bedside tables.

Functional Features

·         Integrated Storage: Most bespoke models are built onto a reinforced divan or ottoman base. The ottoman version uses gas-lift hydraulics to reveal the entire underside of the bed for hidden storage.

·         Tailored Fabrics: These beds are typically finished in premium materials like plush velvet, matte velvet, bouclé, or linen to match specific interior colour palettes.

·         Flush Fit: Because the base is upholstered to the exact dimensions of the mattress, the bed takes up less floor space than a traditional wooden or metal frame.

Construction Quality

·         Reinforced Framework: Bespoke units use thick, solid timber frames rather than thin slats, preventing "creaking" and providing better support for heavy mattresses.

·         Floor-Standing Headboard: Instead of being attached by flimsy wooden struts, the headboard usually stands directly on the floor and bolts into the base for maximum stability.
